The Data to Decisions Cooperative Research Centre (D2D CRC) would like to announce that Professor Hugh Durrant-Whyte will be stepping down as a Board director to take up the position of Chief Scientific Advisor for the UK Ministry of Defence.
Professor Durrant-Whyte is a successful academic, engineer and entrepreneur with a proven track for successfully engaging and achieving research outcomes with industry. He pioneered the field of statistical data fusion, in particular its application in autonomous robotics and in large-scale intelligent systems.
In accepting the role, Professor Durrant-Whyte said “I’m looking forward to addressing the technological challenges and opportunities facing [the United Kingdom’s] Armed Forces and am focussed on the need to drive innovation and engagement throughout the Defence science and technology enterprise.”
Chairman of the D2D CRC Board, Tim Scully, said “As a member of our Board team, Hugh has added significant expertise and strategic insight to help the D2D CRC. We wish Hugh all the best in his new role and are excited to see what he will achieve.”
